Bask in the sun along the seemingly endless coastline, go trekking through the vast expanse of the outback, and go for a hike through the luscious rainforest that sweeps along the coast. Dive and snorkel along the biggest coral reef in the world, the Great Barrier Reef, and take time out to explore the tropical islands that dot this natural wonder. You won’t be short of things to do in this glorious state.
Imagine diving in the world’s biggest aquarium, the Great Barrier Reef and experiencing crystal clear water with an amazing array of marine life. Since being declared a Green Zone (no-take, fish or spear) in 2003, the marine environment around Lady Elliot Island has gone from ‘Great’ to ‘Amazing’! The diversity, quantity and size of the marine animals is truly
remarkable and it’s just getting better with the passage of time.
Lady Elliot Island offers a tremendous, and almost unparalleled anywhere, diversity of uncrowded easily accessible dive locations to experience the biggest coral reef system in the world.
Visibility is over 20 metres for much of the year and encounters with giant Manta Rays, Green, Hawksbill and Loggerhead Turtles and an abundance of incredible marine life are a daily occurrence. PADI has voted Lady Elliot Island as one of the ‘Top 5’ locations in the world to go diving with Manta Rays. They regularly have close encounters with whales underwater while diving and snorkelling in May right through to October.
Access via aircraft from the Gold Coast, Brisbane (Redcliffe), Hervey Bay (Fraser Coast) and Bundaberg.
Lady Elliot Island is a coral cay located at the southern tip of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef.
Situated within a highly protected ‘Green Zone’ the coral cay is a sanctuary for over 1,200 species of marine life and is known for its abundance of manta rays, turtles, an amazing array of spectacular marine life and unspoilt coral reef.
The Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort is a family run and operated eco-tourism business. Peter Gash, family and several partners have held the lease from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to operate the resort since 2005. Since this time, enormous strides have been made to introduce sustainable initiatives to convert the resort to renewable energy with the goal to be 100% renewable by 2020.
